SMR Reactors
Modern Thermal Design can act as the EPC for installing SMRs in the 1-5 MW range and the 35-100 MW range. Lower cost and faster deployment make this a safe and long-lasting solution to energy.
What is an SMR?
The small modular reactor (SMR) is a class of small nuclear fission reactor, designed to be built in a factory, shipped to operational sites for installation, and then used to power buildings or other commercial operations. The term SMR refers to the size, capacity, and modular construction. Reactor type and the nuclear processes may vary. Of the many SMR designs, the pressurized water reactor (PWR) is the most common. However, recently proposed SMR designs include Generation IV, fast-neutron reactors, molten salt, gas-cooled reactors, and thermal-neutron reactors.

Modern Thermal Design has developed a cutting-edge platform that efficiently captures CO2 from engine and turbine exhaust and allows our clients to choose one of the following initiatives:
CO2 Capture
1. Transport to an EPA-Certified CO2 Well Site:
- a. The IRA has increased the commodity price of CO2 by raising the value of the 45Q tax credit.
- b. The price varies depending on the source of CO2 and how it is handled.
- c. CO2 injected into a Class VI well receives a 45Q valued between $85 and $180/tonne, depending on capture method.
2. Beverage-Grade CO2: Our technology allows CO2 to be cleaned to beverage-grade quality and sold to dry ice manufacturers or beverage companies for carbonizing drinks. Typical sales are range from $250 to $350/Tonne of CO2.
- a. EXAMPLE: A 200-kW turbine can produce over 1,100 tonnes of beverage-grade CO2 per year.
- b. 1,100 tonnes x $300/tonne = $330,000.00 per year.
