The Client
The Challenge
Reducing the annual cost of heating water for guest room use, while providing an acceptable equipment payback period. The installation also required that any solution be contained in the mechanical room located on the 26th floor.
The Solution
A 20-panel SunQuest 250TM Solar Thermal System was installed to pre-heat the water entering the 3-boiler array into (3) 750-gallon DHW storage tanks on the 26th-story mechanical room to 140° for early-morning guest shower demand. The Result
Modern Thermal Design was able to engineer a system that not only was appealing on the roofline but provided a 50%+ reduction in guest room DHW natural gas costs with a complete equipment payback in 3.9 years. These results are based on actual gas consumption figures provided by the Grand Hyatt Atlanta.
